Superintendent's Welcome

Dear Springfield Community,

It has been a wonderful start to the new school year, and I want to thank everyone in our community for making it a positive one for our students. This year saw a significant change in three of our four schools as we made shifts in grade configurations at Elm Hill School, Union Street School, and Riverside Middle School. It was a big lift for all involved, and we are now underway and benefitting from the many opportunities that this shift brought. Thanks to all who helped to lend a hand and make all the pieces come together!

Our work this year is targeted and focused on both teaching and learning systems as well as improving our engagement with our students, staff, and community on multiple fronts. I shared our 2025-2026 Action Plan at the start of the year, which will be our roadmap as we refine our systems and ground our development of an instructional framework that provides the structure for the learning and growth that will help all students find success. This Action Plan was created based on community feedback and the analysis of key district systems found in our Development Plan Report.

Over the next months, you'll also start to see changes to our website and our communication overall. Your engagement in our schools is critical, and we will be creating opportunities to get involved and to better understand what's happening and how it impacts students and families. I'll also be coming out into the community to share the work we are doing and learn more about the types of things that would improve our partnership with parents, guardians, and the town as a whole.

I'd like to be able to meet as many Springfield parents and community members as possible, and look forward to being out in the community in the months ahead. Your insight and understanding of the needs of our students and our schools is vital as we work together to make our district a place of belonging and success for all.

Thank you for your continued involvement in Springfield schools!

With gratitude,

Peter Burrows, D.Ed.
