Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

Welcome to Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Springfield School District.

This page highlights the work that drives teaching and learning across our schools. At Springfield, we are guided by a clear, student-centered belief: every learner can achieve at high levels when supported by strong Tier 1 instruction, inclusive environments, and responsive systems.

We view curriculum, instruction, and assessment as a single, cohesive ecosystem rather than separate initiatives. When these elements are aligned, we ensure that every student has access to high-quality, standards-based learning, and that our educators have the clarity and resources they need to help every student grow.

Our Instructional Framework We anchor our classroom excellence in four key components: Environment, Design, Delivery, and Assessment. This framework ensures our classrooms are safe and engaging, our planning is intentional, our instruction is high-impact, and our feedback makes learning visible and actionable.

As Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, my commitment is to bring coherence to our systems while honoring the deep expertise of our educators. This work is a continuous, collaborative journey that thrives on the partnership between our staff, families, and the community.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with our services, including your rights if you and/or your family is experiencing homelessness. You’ll find this information in the links on the right hand side of this page.

Together, we are building purposeful and transformative learning experiences for every student. The future of Springfield starts here.

Respectfully

Alena Martes
