Superintendent’s Corner

Peter Burrows

To the Springfield School District Community,

We are excited to share that our strategic planning process is getting underway. This effort will focus on bringing our community together to help shape a shared vision for what we want our schools to be and look like for our students in the years ahead. It’s an opportunity to make real progress in areas we’ve discussed for years but haven’t yet fully addressed. I look forward to meeting with many of you, talking with students, and building a plan that helps us reach our goals.

As part of this work, we will be hosting a public strategic planning engagement event—similar to a town hall—where community members can come together to help build this vision collaboratively. Community input will be essential in this work and I encourage parents, caregivers, families, and all who care about the success of our students to attend and share your perspectives, experiences, and ideas. Your voice matters.

At the same time, we are continuing work on our budget to ensure we have a clear and transparent plan for FY27 as we prepare for a revote. We will be sharing more information in the coming weeks about the next opportunity for the community to vote.

In addition to the above, our Action Plan work continues to move forward. Our literacy initiative has reached an important stage as we select curricula, deepen training, and build a strong system designed to make a meaningful impact on student outcomes from PreK through grade 12.

We look forward to engaging with you in the weeks ahead and I am deeply grateful for the support and partnership of this community as we continue building a school district that reflects our shared hopes for students and the pride we take in our work. Thank you for all you do to keep our schools strong. It truly makes a difference.

With gratitude,
Peter Burrows
