The third-seeded Cosmos earned a spot in the state championship with a 1-0 win over No. 15 Milton on Tuesday night at Brown Field. The win keeps Springfield undefeated at 17-0 and gives our community plenty to celebrate!
With less than 19 minutes left in the game, sophomore midfielder Ava Johnson scored the winning goal off a pass from Kaia Gray. The Cosmos held on to their lead through the final minutes to earn the shutout and secure their place in the championship game.
This win reflects the hard work, teamwork, and determination that have made this season so special. Twelve different players have scored goals for Springfield this fall, showing the strength and talent across the team.
Head Coach Ray Curren praised the team's journey, which began with hard work over the summer and a belief in what they could achieve. After rebuilding the program, the Cosmos have put together an amazing season that has made the Springfield community proud.
Now, the team is getting ready for its biggest game yet! Springfield will face No. 4 Green Mountain Valley School in the Division II state championship on Saturday, October 31, at noon at South Burlington High School.
The Springfield Booster Club is challenging the whole town to “Paint the Town White and Green!” Wear your team colors, decorate your storefront, or put up a sign to show the Cosmos how proud we are. Let’s send our team into the championship with support from the entire community!
Congratulations to our players and coaches on an incredible season. We are proud of your hard work, determination, and team spirit.
Go Cosmos!
