Summary of Parents Meeting

Concerns:

*Importance of before and after school programs
*Traffic
-Behavior of students on busses
-Driver issues
-Do not force kids to take the bus
*Transitions
-Don’t make the kids move unnecessarily
-Difficult for children
-Grandfathering?
-Special needs students
*Will services be maintained?
*Fixed Boundaries
-How do we balance in future years?
*Medical Issues:
-Special consideration
*Equity
-Both schools need good people.  It is not the neighborhood.
*What happens if you move during the year?

Solutions:

~Drop off point for parents of Elm Hill students and bus takes them to school.
~Longer drop-off times.
~Educate parents about traffic – do another traffic study.
~Car pooling/rides share.
~Put supervision on busses.
~Give parents options.
~Separate children on busses by age and school.
~Balance schools with tuition students.
~Bus elementary by themselves.
~Allow grandfathering.
~Leave Elm and Union alone and give Park a choice.
~Don’t grandfather – everyone in same boat and make changes.
~Have an open house at each school so parents can transition as well.
~Assign students by district, but allow them the choice to change.
Have bus routes go to both schools.
~Single bus route, assign students to schools to make a balance.
