Superintendent's Biography
Dr. Frank S. Perotti, Jr.

The position of Superintendent of Schools is an opportunity and a challenge.  I am proud, enthusiastic and energized by the opportunity that has been offered to me in the Springfield School District.  The Springfield Schools have provided a high quality education for their children for over 200 years.  We will continue to meet that challenge and I hope to provide the leadership that will continue to make this a strong and proud educational community.

My career in education began as a National Teacher Corps Intern assigned to the inner city schools of Omaha, Nebraska in 1968.  I had grown up on a dairy farm that my family still operates today in Millerton, New York and I had just graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Agricultural Economics and Business Management.  My desire to serve my fellow citizens and return some of the advantages I had received as well as a strong belief in the power of education to provide opportunity to every person regardless of their birth circumstance guided my choice to become an educator.

I have over the years taught in almost every grade, certainly at every level, specializing in Special Education and the education of high risk students.  I have been an elementary principal, Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent, Middle School Principal, and Superintendent.  I was also a consultant for three years with the Northeast Regional Center for Drug Free Schools and Communities, a grant funded agency working for the United States Department of Education.  Always I have been a teacher and hope to remain one for the rest of my productive life regardless of capacity or title.

I am married with five children, the youngest just four (4) years old and the oldest a successful professional in the newspaper business.  We love animals, maintain a small menagerie of farm animals, farm our 28 acres with quasi antique equipment to provide for our own animals and engage in outdoor activities of all sorts.  I personally love to cook and backpack as a way to decompress as well.

My intent is to be very active in the community.  The schools are facing definite challenges because of the Federal, State and local initiatives to maintain and continuously improve our educational performance as we come to realize that the demands for deeper understandings of political, economic and civic responsibilities have never been greater or more demanding.  It is no longer acceptable or possible for children to only have, at a minimum, a high quality high school education, but they must be prepared for formal education beyond and capable of becoming life long learners.

Please feel free to stop by and talk education or just share your perspectives.  My office is always open and you are always welcome.  The future is our children and we must provide the very best we can for them in order they can become the caretakers of our global society in the future.
