Mission Statement
Gateway is a Therapeutic and Academic program designed to meet the needs of students who are socially, emotionally and academically challenged.  The program’s aim is to serve students and their families who can comprehend and benefit from learning the Gateway Core Values.  Students are expected to practice these values through the Gateway Levels System and to extend this practice to their home and community, as well as, all parts of their daily lives.
Core Values
Gateway values a safe and supportive environment for staff and students.

Gateway values trusting and nurturing relationships between students and staff members.

Gateway Values timely and effective communication among the members of the Gateway community.  All efforts are made to include appropriate members in the problem solving and decision making.

Gateway values diversity.  Each person has the right to be valued for his or her learning style and individuality

Gateway values innovative ideas, team focused decisions and the implementation of best teaching practices.  The goal is for students to take these values and integrate them into their daily lives.
Levels System
The Levels System is a motivational program based on a series  of steps.
At each step, student privileges increase as student responsibility increases.
Emphasis is placed on moving behavioral control from the teaching staff to the student.
This system is structured around staff and peer support, as well as, positive feedback.
Students develop individual goals related to communication, social skills and problem solving.
These skills are developed and practiced in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Once developed, these skills enable students to participate successfully in their home school, as well as, within the community.
